I had foot surgery there on November 13, 2025. From the front desk, to the nurses, everyone was friendly and helpful. My surgeon was Dr. Russell who was awesome. And to all of the people listed on the card, y’all were great! All of you made me feel very calm before the surgery and afterwards. Thank you.I would definitely recommend this place again.
First let me apologize to all the employees at the Birmingham Outpatient Care Center. Instead of experiencing the Center for myself I let reviews cloud my judgement. Now that’s out the way let me start my review. The security guard great!!!! The doors opened at 5:00 AM he was right there making sure patients and employees were safe. Signed in and was in the waiting room for about 35 minutes before I was called to window #2 by IEE. She was very organized and cordial. She finished and wished me good luck, a great day, and God bless handed me my paperwork and sent me to floor #3. When I exited the elevator 7 Pre-Op Nursed were there and took my paperwork. Sit down in the waiting room for about 5 minutes and then Mallory called me for my BP, weight, and Medical screening. After that it was off to the Pre-Op following Mallory to my POD. She was very professional, sweet, and caring. I changed into my gown then she came in started my IV and prepared my knee for surgery. Great experience. Very calming attitude. Next the Anesthesiologist Henry came in and explained every little procedure and detail they were going to use during surgery and then asked if he could answer any questions that I had. I was good. Then Dr. Savage Jr came in to mark my knee and explained the procedure. Now its game on and everything started moving quickly. Teena, Grace, Sara All of these Excellent Nurses were very professional but also caring and a little humorous which was great to keep my anxiety from setting in. The CRNA April was great. She came right in introduced herself and explained everything in a soothing professional tone but with a smile. You could tell she loved her job and it showed. April reached over and injected my IV and we were off to the OR. We carried on a somewhat conversation as we rolled down the hallway because she knew I was getting anxious. I entered the OR and was instructed to move over to the other table. The whole team was great because one would say move up, and the other nurse would say move down, and another nurse would say move left and move right. I finally said whoa only one way at a time. What I didn’t know was they did this on purpose passing time because I told the Anesthesiologist about getting anxiety looking around the OR before going to sleep. Finally April said the magic words “Breathe in the mask”. I tried to fight but we know who always wins. Man what a TEAM. Kudos you were great. Procedure over then I met Ashley, Theresa, and Sara. Theresa was the icing on the cake for my visit. Again professional, funny, and caring giving me doctors directives and everything that I needed to do. After about what seemed 30-40 minutes in Post-Op I was discharged. So what do I think about Birmingham Outpatient Care Center. Admissions 5 stars, Pre-Op 5 stars, Anesthesia 5 stars, OR Team 5 stars, Post-Op Recovery 5 stars, Dr Savage Jr 5 stars.
STOP - Do NOT use this facility. I’ve NEVER had so much information mixed up for a procedure or surgery in my life! I’ve had 18, so I KNOW what I’m talking about! Plus I’ve been a medical professional for 25 years and I don’t how they’re still open. From the first phone call they had me down for the trial E-Stim implant telling me my co-pay was $260 per visit (2). I asked, WHY would there be a Trial when I’m scheduled for a PNS a 60 day temporary stimulator? She said she didn’t know but that I still had to pay the $260 no matter which they were doing. I was told I’d get a call from the Pre-Op nurse the day before. I did get that call and they STILL had the WRONG orders! Then I was told to stop my Metformin and my Ozempic 8 days prior. I said excuse me? Nobody told me that because I’d been taking it. She then told me they could do it locally as they do often. I was not fond of that idea but as long as I couldn’t feel it ok. I arrive at the facility, and the nurse comes out to take me back “confirming” the temporary placement! I said absolutely NOT! I’m getting the 60 day PNS. She excused herself to find out what was going on. 45 mins later she comes back saying “I think we have it correct”, seriously?!? Alas, they did NOT. She proceeded with the usual checks, and again talks about the temporary and going from the front. In shock I said, NO, I’m getting the temporary and never progressing to the permanent. I told her I’m not happy that I insist they get it right! The anesthesiologist came in and we talked about my taking the Metformin and Ozempic. Well he was ok with it because it’s been 4 days since the Ozempic, and that I’d be Prone (important). I said we’re knocking me out right? He said yes since you’ll be prone then there’s no risk of you aspirating. I sigh in relief. He then gets to the nurses desk and they tell him, NO! She’s going to be supine! I hollered out and said “no I’m not” but was ignored. Anyways there apparently was an anesthesiologist shift change and the 2nd anesthesiologist wasn’t comfortable with putting me asleep despite it being 4 days and me being “Supine”🤬. I don’t find this out until I’m rolled into the OR!!!!! The vendor for my 60 day device comes in and I tell him I’m sooo glad he’s there and he said sure no problem. I said yes there is! I told him what was going on and he said oh boy, I’ll go talk to them. He does and YET, I go to the OR, roll onto my stomach and STILL someone comments, she’s supposed to be Supine! I tell the nurse closest to me, um NO I’m supposed to be PRONE! These do not go in through the Torso to my thoracic spine! I ignored them and being very upset still and asked where’s Dr Chang? And they said he’s coming. I looked at the nurse and asked aren’t you going to give me something to knock me out and was told, no they’re doing it locally. I told her what the anesthesiologist told me and that’s when I found out about the swap🤬. The Doctor walked in and I told him I was NOT happy with this place and that I was NOT doing ok. He confirmed everything I SAID but that this could be done locally. I said ok but I’m not ok with this. The nurse then goes to clean my back and the Bradon’s was ice cold! I asked her to please please warm that up! And she said they couldn’t! I say BS! During my procedure the Dr was directed to my low back and I said STOP. It’s my upper back!!! Pulling it out he numbs a higher location and a nurse made a comment, don’t make a mistake I worked hard getting you in here, EXCUSE ME!!! He was directed by the other Vendor!🤬. The nurse that ended up holding my hands told her supervisor that her fingers were bruised from me squeezing her hands in pain and she also told me it was ok to cuss! I’m so upset by this horrible experience!!!! Again DI NOT use this facility!!!!
Three stars as part of my extensive experience with this facility is positive. The Dr.s, nurses and most of the support staff are wonderful and the facility is clean and well maintained. The problem with me checking in this last time was the intake personnel, very rude. They also got my co-pay wrong with this most current visit but we managed to clear that up and that lady was nice and very appologetic. We however did not find the office manager to be very nice at all. Cold is putting it mildly and I never wish to speak to her again. When asking her a question she stated to me they have 70-90 patients a day to deal with so I point blank told her well then you won't miss me, bye. Dealing with patients (customers) she should know how to be diplomatic and smooth ruffled feathers not antagonize her clients.
I came in for a spinal block. The nurses Christian, Johnica, and Carol absolutely ROCK!! These ladies took such good care of me from the time I got in until the time I checked out! I have a response where I pass out with IV's. I didn't but Carol got the IV right in! Surgery was a success!
