I have been going to this clinic for probably over ten years. My experience has always been pleasant, even with new doctors and staff throughout time. Dr. Sol, the assistants, the kind woman helping with check ins, Spencer, and Derek are all really great. I didn’t catch the name of the young lady who helped me before Dr. Sol saw me, but she was very kind and knowledgeable. Derek was also incredibly kind and personable when I came in last minute one day. Spencer was very friendly, considerate, and helpful when checking out my new glasses. He helped me to select the best frames and was patient and clear in explaining things. I hope they all get the recognition they deserve. I love that the clinic has a selection for everyone and different budgets. I especially love the value pack section where frames are $50, or $100 when including my prescription lenses.
I just had my 2nd Annual Diabetic Eye Exam, a specialized exam that falls under Medical Insurance, and not the usual Vision Insurance. I am very impressed with Marietta Eye Clinic because it is obvious that they are up-to-date on the latest technological protocols, equipment, and processes. Also, they are very efficient with the transitions to different "stations" depending on what specific exams I was there for. The biggest plus, though, is the staff - each member seems genuinely pleasant and friendly. Highly recommend!
This review is specifically related to their self pay/cash pay billing practices and the billing department. The fees for Established/returning patients are deceptively HIGHER than for new patients/1st visit. They do NOT have upfront fees and instead bill based on CPT codes circled by the doctor at the end of the visit for which you are at the mercy of the doctor for deciding. At core, CPT codes are tools for insurance billing and categorizing the length of time doctors spend with new vs established pts. I was switched to a new doctor last minute/morning of appointment for a quick, low complexity followup to a low complexity eye issue I had had the previous month as a new patient. I was in the building 30 minutes from checkin to walking to checkout. Dr Barbara Smith was in my room for less than 10 minutes, and she chose to bill me at a level Three established patient visit (by definition, spending 20 min or more in direct patient care). This fee was more than $100 MORE than my first visit as a NEW patient the previous month. I was taken off guard as I expected to pay at least similar if not less for a followup. I requested readjustment to a level 2 established patient visit based on the time spent and my issue. The billing manager said it is “not in their policy to adjust once the doctor completes the (paper) self pay bill” and “it is not their policy” “to discuss billing with the doctor after the fact” or even call back to clarify why Dr Smith billed as a more complex issue. If you don’t have insurance- I would caution against scheduling an appointment here. I will not be returning as it does both doctor and patients a disservice to refuse communication or explanation between the cost of care and the care given.
Being in the healthcare biz, I am familiar with common customer service techniques that are taught- and I did not see them both times I saw two different opthalmologists. I was glad to get an appointment quickly and have my problem addressed. They see a lot of people here and move them through quickly. I waited in total over an hour to see a doc for about 5 minutes. The staff are nice and friendly. But the docs need a primer in customer service. Introduce yourself, greet the patient. The visit was rushed, the docs were robotic. That said, I understand how the system works- they see high volumes- and I felt like a number. I do believe they are competent- If you don't mind a rushed, impersonal visit.
Dr. Bratton and her team were wonderful! I want to give a huge shout out to Alessandra ( medical assistant ) and Jaiden (Nurse). They were so kind and eased any nerves I had. Great job to all involved. I am a little over a month post op and things are looking good so far! I’ve had no major issues. Thank you team!
