My experience in my last two visits is that I was seen quickly, I received clear information about my procedure, and folks were friendly. My doctor was professional, very quick, and clearly explained what was happening. I had very good results and have been recommending the procedure and the clinic to my friends.
Update since I last wrote - they waived the second $100 charge but only after I called. DO NOT GO HERE - I strongly recommend avoiding Hawaii Vision Specialists. Every time I’ve gone here, they’ve gotten my prescription wrong and still charged me for their mistakes. Most recently, I went in for contacts and an eye exam to check if my vision changed. While already in the exam chair, I was suddenly told about a $100 “fitting fee” — no prior warning. Then, they gave me my glasses prescription for contacts and tried to convince me it was correct. I literally had to teach myself how to read a prescription just to explain to them that contacts don’t even require a PD. On top of that, I was charged another $100, only to later find out the doctor billed it as a medical visit instead of a vision visit — which meant my insurance wouldn’t cover it. Throughout the process, I felt gaslit, uninformed, and belittled. And honestly, the front office feels more like a skincare sales counter than an eye clinic. I wish I had read reviews before giving them two chances. I will never be back.
If you want quality professionalism and friendly knowledgeable staff. Then I recommend Hawaii vision specialists to everyone. Doctor Driscoll and his staff are the best on the island in my opinion, he's very caring and thorough. And the quality care in keeping your vision in excellent condition is of the highest quality around on this Island. Mahalo for being the best and the greatest care given to me.
It has now been 137 days since I paid over $700 for prescription Maui Jim sunglasses, and I still have not received them. Two weeks ago I was told they would arrive by the middle of last week, yet no one has followed up with me since. Even worse, I still haven’t received the prescription glasses through the VA. They have not even called to confirm they received the prescription. This is the second year in a row they have failed to deliver my VA glasses. As a disabled veteran with a service-connected TBI, I rely on properly fitted prescription sunglasses to prevent severe migraines. The wrong prescription makes daily life painful, and being left without glasses for months is not just an inconvenience—it’s harmful. What’s most disappointing is not only the repeated mistakes, but also the lack of basic communication or accountability. No veteran—or anyone—should be treated this way. At the very least, patients deserve timely updates and the products they have already paid for.
I've recently had a cataract surgery for both eyes. I've only seen Dr Driscoll one time at which appointment which was my first appointment that he made surgery for both of my eyes. I was told I will be paying zero coupe or zero deductible because my insurance doesn't have a copay and if there is a deductible then I am billed that after the building insurance. When I showed up for my morning appointment the day of surgery the front desk was asking me for $1,000 for each eye which is $2,000 to be paid upfront. When I asked them to provide me with the itemized billing statement because they already claim that they ran it through the insurance they couldn't provide one. They gave me repeatedly a receipt for the payment that I have made. Right next to me was an old lady with her daughter or would I assume was her daughter who had the exact same experience. Nobody was told that we're going to have to be paying $2,000 for an eye surgery which we were first told that was going to be covered by the insurance. The biggest problem is that they didn't even build the insurance and they're charging you the money up front and my receipt doesn't say anything else it just says personally expense. What hello what personal expense ? Real shady people
