Was sent to St Clare for cataract surgery. It is an hour drive from my home. The telephone intake interview with a nurse was very thorough. The best I have ever had. I showed up 30 min prior to my surgery, the first of two cataracts. The receptionist was very organized and prepared. I later learned St Clare does 20-40 eye surgeries every day so they really have developed a well oiled machine. The next nurse completed the medical input and began initial preps i.e. drops, discharge instructions, etc. Again, she was organized, prepared and warmly friendly. We went back to the waiting room for about 10 min before I was called back for the procedure. It was obvious that everyone involved was part of an organized and practiced team. They were positive and confident and well rehersed. I spoke with the anesthetist and surgeon and was receiving treatment before I knew it. NOTE: The sedation was very very mild. I was always awake and responsive to commands. I never had a sensation of "being out". My procedure took 15-20 min and post op/recovery was just as smooth as input. I was in the car heading home before I knew it. Fear of the unknown is always bad. Any surgery is stressful and it is easy to let fear take charge and color our perceptions. St Clare is now well known to me. I dont look forward to getting eye #2 done. But I am totally confident in the professionals at St Clare.
I want to thank all of the intake people, the nurses, the anesthesiologist, and Dr. Chi for doing an amazing job with me yesterday. I was scared and nervous, considering this was an operation on the eye, but they made me feel comfortable, right at home, were very polite and professional. If you ever need an eye surgery, you're in the right place. Thank you again to everyone for yesterday.
The intake nurses do the minimal work possible to call and do a phone assessment. When sharing past surgical experiences, I was rushed and felt belittled. On the day of surgery, the front desk secretary spoke loudly and shared medical information with the rest of the waiting room. The pre-op area is small and none of the curtains were pulled, for privacy purposes. This staff was unfriendly, appeared uncertain in their care for myself and the patients around me, and they disagreed with my surgeon moving forward on my plan of care. I watched as the staff pushed fluids on a sleeping diabetic patient and I saw a block being done on another patient. My surgical plan was changed, and no information was shared post-op, with my family. The billing department has also been a nightmare to work with. I would not recommend this surgery center or my surgeon, Dr. Willet.
Wow what amazing treatment. Everyone was so helpful and truly caring always checking to make sure you were doing ok and if you needed anything. This was my first cataract surgery and they made it easy
