I’ve had the best experience with every staff member I have interacted with from registration to the medical staff. I just had my knee replaced by Dr. Rhett MacNielle Monday and everything went so well. Their staff have been great their communications are excellent and they arranged for everything. It has been the most effortless on my end for such a serious procedure. They had my therapy set up at another facility of my choosing and had all my medications called in so I was prepared for when I got home after surgery. Just a great overall experience and I would highly recommend them to anyone needing joint replacement. Top notch!
Dr. D. David Davis of The Orthopaedic Institute in Herrin Illinois performed a lumbar L4-5 laminectomy on me (Nov. 5, 2025). He did an excellent job giving me instant relief from spinal stenosis. The surgery went well as did the recovery. The surgical team at Herrin Hospital were wonderful. Dr. D. David Davis's team were great. Nurse Meaghan was very helpful as was Lukas Ward. Both were knowledgeable and compassionate. My follow appointments with Lukas Ward went smoothly. This is a very busy office with almost every patient having to go thru the xray room before their appointment which can become a bottleneck. This orthopedic center is helping many people with many different issues so don't expect to not have to wait. I had also seen Dr. Tennyson Lee of this same orthopedic group. He was very compassionate and was helpful. I got limited relief from his steroid injections, but they gave us a basis to move forward with surgery. Spinal stenosis was ruining my body below the waist. This happened in a short period of time leaving my previously active 62-year-old self in disbelief. My family and friends wanted me to go to Barnes for this surgery. I resisted wanting the surgery to be in southern Illinois. I put my mobility in Dr. D. David Davis's hands, and I could not be happier. He relieved several pressure points that had diminished my quality of life. I am getting back to my active lifestyle. I could hardly walk into the hospital on the day of my surgery due to the amount of pain I was experiencing.
Over the years I’ve seen several surgeons, quite a few of them orthopedic & none are as awesome as Dr D Davis at SIOC. He & his PA listen & after two surgeries, I feel better than I have in a decade. They’re super friendly & made both procedures easy for me to go through. I highly recommend seeing Dr Davis if you have spinal issues.
The PAs and Nurses we worked with today were outstanding! Very polite and sweet with my 6 year old daughter who was seen for her first broken bone. If the initial experience with reception or checkout team was even half as positive, this would be a 5-star review. However, the experience during both the check-in and check-out portions of the visit, with two separate middle-aged women (worth noting, as most people expect this behavior from millennials, but not seasoned, adult professionals), was incredibly unprofessional and frustrating. Neither acknowledged my presence after standing before them, at their desks for at least 10 seconds, until I initiated conversation with a “hello” (and a smile). Only then did they stop scrolling on their cell phones (and one took a few more seconds after I spoke to finish scrolling and put her phone down) to ask me if I needed their help… If I hadn’t announced myself, I wonder how long I’d have stood there watching them scroll… Great bedside manner from the healthcare professionals, weak customer service from the office personnel. Hospitality training goes a long way, when implemented properly. My hope for SIH is that they employ new practices soon.
I have spent months trying to get an appointment. I finally got to see Dr Donald Davis but have since waited from two weeks before Halloween of last year to get them to set up a MRI. Now nurse Megan in his office is butt hurt about something or someone and is extremely condescending and rude and when she's confronted about it she hangs up! Now I'm going to have to get a different doctor because of this completely unprofessional little girl! Don't waste your time with this place!
