I have trusted my eyes to Dr. Rand and his family of opthalmologists for many years. Their expertise and professionalism is the best in the area. The one aspect about their practice where they fail, however is there seems to be little value shown for the customer's time. Their waiting room is often filled and my wait time is always more than two hours, sometimes many hours. I get shuffled from the waiting room to the examing room only to wait longer. Sometimes I get sent back to the waiting room for the next step to take olace. I always schedule appointments for when the office first opens up in the morning, to minimize my time wasted, but I still always wait unreasonable lengths of time. I don't like the philosophy of overbooking, but that's what I experience every time. I pack my patience and endure the monotony only because the opthamlogic care is top notch.
This establishment over books for sure. Like, that is actually an understatement. But why is the real question. They have plenty of clientele that seem to be regulars. I'm sure they would take whatever appt was available. Plan to be here for at least 3 hours, because you're most likely going to wait for 1 hour before being called back. Anyway there are 3 stories. First floor lobby, the receptionist will let u know which floor your appt is on. They have a case of rubber duckies as if its a gift stop. Its somewhat off to me. Maybe there's a hidden meaning, but its strange for an eye specialist establishment. Parking is always pretty packed. The receptionists are so so. They could be friendlier. Its not even about a huge smile, energy is everything.
I was a nervous wreck not knowing what to expect? My first eye exam ever! From the moment I exited the elevator…. WOW! A FABULOUS WAITING area, similar to a 5-Star Hotel Lobby. A cast of helpers ran down the far right side. Each employee I encountered was full of JOY! (when was the last time you experir ced this?) NEVER! I got called it for test after test, finally put into a room with Dr. Marino, looked like a kid, but has been an Optometrist with the Institute 30+ years. Each test he did he gave me an explanation. He is smart and funny, my favorite qualities! Now I'm into this appoint over three hours. I thought we were finished. Now Dr. Rand comes in looking all of 20 years old. The equipment comes out they both start talking optometry talk I know nothing about lots of talk. I know nothing about back-and-forth and back-and-forth. Now the Proverbialbomb Is dropped.” Well, Patricia, you have very very bad eyesight with cataracts! One eye is 20/500 (blind) The other not much better. I’ll be honest I was not shocked. I didn’t go to this appointment thinking I was 20/20 vision I also didn’t go thinking I was blind. I will say I am so happy that my friend told me this was the place to go. She was right.
The Rand Eye Institute is, in my opinion, one of the finest facilities in the state for eye surgery. I was very apprehensive about having eye surgery but that concern was immediately taken away as soon as I entered the building. From the moment I stepped in I knew I was in safe hands. Rand has a three -story building with an operating room on the first floor, very much like a boutique hospital. I had two eye cataract surgeries in the month of July 2025 as a result of long haul COVID. Every moment you are there you are getting the finest care. A shoutout to Debbie Rand who assured me I would be well taken care of to Dr. David Rand, my surgeon, Shelby and their staff. The operating room staff is kind and very accommodating from Dr Munoz in anesthesia, Jeffrey, Lily, Ashley Julie, Brittany, Carol, Cathy, Sue and Barbara, The drivers who take such good care of you in their vans while transporting you to and from your home. Honestly from my heart, if you have chosen Rand you've made the best decision of your life. I can't even thank them all but I will be forever grateful.
I am extremely disappointed with this provider's handling of medical records requests. When my father, Carlos, requested for his records to be sent via email or fax, methods that are standard and widely accepted, they REFUSED. My dad was there in person to request these records. Instead, they limited options to pickup or mailing, which FORCES patients into unnecessary inconvenience and ADDITIONAL COSTS. This approach feels like a deliberate way to impose per page charges, which in unheard of in experience. EVERY other provider I've dealt with has accommodated email or fax without issue. This practice is not patiently-friend and creates an unnecessary financial burden. ALSO, for my father's consultation today, instead of paying $95 dollars, they charged him $300 and said the total was $4,000! EXTREMELY overpriced, not helpful, DO NOT GO HERE!
